New Group to advocate for building the Route 29 Bypass
Charlottesville, VA- January 23, 2014: At the Albemarle County Office Building tomorrow at 2pm Bypass29Now will hold a press conference on their agenda for supporting the immediate building of the US Route 29 bypass. President of Bypass29now Paul Wright is the former Chairman of the Albemarle Architectural Review Board and will address such topic as health effects of the bypass and speak to the final air quality report from VDOT
“As a recent Weldon Cooper study has just shown the 29 bypass is favored by a clear majority of the area’s citizens. Opponents of the bypass have, in many cases, overstated risks and concerns to the building of the bypass that have little relation to this area. It is time to address those exaggerated claims and give the public a more realistic view of this road and it’s benefits” stated Paul Wright.
Bypass29Now is a Charlottesville based 501(c)(4) Virginia corporation
Throughout this interminably long assessment process – the Commonwealth of Virginia and federal government sought to determine the least environmentally intrusive route for a US29 bypass in the region while providing the safest, accessible route. The designated route was selected from twenty-seven (27) different alternative routes.
49% of all the vehicular accidents along US29’s entire 219 length in Virginia, occur in Albemarle-Charlottesville. Furthermore, those accidents are not all “fender-benders” – 41% of all accidents on US29’s entire Virginia length – involving personal injury or worse – occur in Albemarle-Charlottesville.
